If you like pina coladas and grilling in the rain…wait, what? This week’s forecast is calling for a good bit of rain across the state, but don’t let that ruin your plans, because you can still grill in the rain!
First of all, it’s important to note that you should never use an electrical grill that requires an outlet while it’s raining. However, grilling with a charcoal or propane grill is perfectly fine.
To protect yourself, your food, and your grill from the rain, you can move your grill to a covered area outside, but make sure that it’s at least 9 feet tall and fairly open to prevent smoke damage. Also, never bring your grill into your garage or your home to cook. If you don’t have a safe covered area, then you can still grill, but you’ll want a poncho or rain jacket for yourself to stay as dry as possible. Or, you can opt for a patio umbrella to keep yourself dry– avoid using a handheld umbrella as you’ll need both hands to cook and control the grill.
It’s also important to keep your grill closed as much as you can if you’re grilling in the rain. Even if you’re under a covered area, wind and stray rain droplets can get on your food or the grill.
Keep in mind too, that cooking when it’s windy outside will cause your grill’s temperature to lower. So, it will likely take longer to cook on your grill while it’s raining. If a gust of wind blows out your burners, open up the grill and wait a few minutes before relighting to allow the remaining gas to escape the grill.
Rain or shine, we are here to help you with all of your grilling and propane needs. So, come to see us today at Daughtridge Gas & Oil in Rocky Mount, NC.
